We arrived in Korcula yesterday and got to enjoy a beautiful night in the town. This morning we had a little time, and what a gorgeous town! We lucked out and got a guesthouse right across the road from the beach and only a 2 minute walk to the old town, although Korcula is very small, so I’m sure most of the accommodations are pretty nearby. We jumped in the water as soon as we arrived; the water here is surprisingly cold! Feels just like swimming in Cambra Sands, although it’s not so bad when it’s over 35 degrees outside! After that we got some groceries and packed a supper before going into the old town to explore it a bit. We found a couple of great museums and a great spot outside the city walls on the ocean to eat our supper. It was perfect.

We were also lucky enough to be in Korcula on a Thursday night, which means the Moreska was on. It’s a sword dance that they’ve been performing here for over 400 years. For a while they showed it all around the Mediterranean, but now it’s mostly only in Korcula. It was very interesting, and there was a beautiful a capella group at the beginning of the show. At the end of the night we went to a cocktail bar on top of an old fortress. The only way up was on a small ladder through a hole in the ceiling and they give the orders and get the drinks using a pulley up and down the outside of the fort. It was very cool. Anyway, we’re sad to be leaving Korcula, but next up is Dubrovnik which I hear is just as beautiful as this, though it’s hard to imagine.

Here are some of our pictures.
